What is it with the ER??

I swear, you'd think that hospitals in America would realize that there's a large amount of people living in America that do not, for whatever reason, have health insurance and thus doctors of their very own to go see in the middle of the day for their "plaguing" illnesses...

That being said, when people with REAL EMERGENCIES like, cutting their finger half off and gushing blood everywhere actually NEED to use the ER, they have to get stitched up in the HALLWAY in front of the Ice and Water machine while sitting on some ghetto fabulous recliner. Yes, as the doctor is shooting my finger with the numbing shot and scrubbing the heck out my gaping wound, I'm being DRIPPED on by nurses getting ice and water for all the other patients in actual rooms!!

Honestly, just come to grips with it and build bigger ERs with MORE ROOMS and hire a couple more DOCTORS!! I'm pretty sure you charge enough that you can afford it.

Oh and yes, I am an idiot. I was trying to cut the stem out of a frozen strawberry. I was holding it in my left hand and had the steak knife in my right. Frozen strawberries are pretty darn hard, so I was really digging to get that stupid stem out (for the yummy smoothie I was making of course) and the strawberry just split in half and all that pressure went straight into my hand in between my pointer and middle finger. I didn't cut the tendon luckily, but I severed the nerve and now have no feeling in the tip and right side of my pointer finger. The doc doesn't think I'll ever get it back. So, 7 stitches later, here I am. So sad.

SHEILA!!! I'm so sorry!!! OUCH!!! I'm glad you were able to get stitched up even if it was in the hallway by the ice and water machine!!! I will be very careful cutting frozen strawberries form NOW ON!! Hope it heals fast for you!!!

Yikes!! That's awful! I loathe emergency rooms. But I'll give you a trick for next time that will bring you right up to the front of the line! There was one time we went to the ER with my mom who had fluid in her lungs. The ER was bustling with people. All I had to do was say she was having trouble breathing, and they took her in right away! Now, granted, you probably should be having trouble breathing if you want to tell them that, but that's besides the point. ;)

Thank goodness you're all better! Maybe now you'll cut the stems off the strawberries BEFORE you put them in the freezer. (wink!)

Dang Girl! I'm so sorry. That totally stinks. Wish I was there to help you with your little men. =(
Yes, you will LOVE Three Cups of Tea (written by Greg Mortenson). The beginning is a little slow, but then becomes this great, heroic story about a man determined to build schools. It will def. appeal to your "teacher" senses. =) Let me know what you think when you're done with it. I LOVED it!

OH MY GOSH!!! Sheila! You really won't get the feeling back like for real!? You poor thing. I wish I was there to help with the kids while you are all bandaged up. :O( Maybe you should consider cutting the stems out before you freeze the strawberried next time. :o) I love you bunches.

Dude, that sucks! Really, I don't think larry ever lets me use anything sharp anymore, I too am accident prone to cutting myself everytime I use the knife.
Hey sorry I take for ever to respond, but I use Picassa web album to put my pics on and they have fun effects for your pics too. Click on that little rainbow colored wheel thingy at the bottom of my pictures and I think that might take you to where you need to be.
And Darn Shanda I wish she would let us see her blog, maybe you can by now, if so let her know I want to join in on all the fun. Miss you terribly, feel better, load up on all the otc drugs while you've got an excuse.

Sheila!! I hope you are feeling better....and I hope it just happened since I just saw you. I am blind sometimes. I would feel really bad if I didn't see you were injured. Hope you get better soon!!

(The only way to get immediate service in ER is arriving by ambulance. I don't really recommend it, but they do pay close attention to you.)

Uhm pretty sure just reading that story made me pass out! I'm not sure how you survived that whole experience. Maybe when I'm a mom of two I'll be able to stomach that sort of thing...probably not though. :) And can I just say that Jordan is getting so big and sooo stinking cute!!

OUCH! I was sinking lower and lower in my seat and getting all tense just reading that! I'm so sorry that happened. But a strawberry smoothie is definitely worth no more feeling in your finger, right? And I'm sure those people really needed that ice and water right away... yeah right!

I'm so sorry! It stinks when stuff like that happens!! Anyway, what the heck about the ER?!? The last time we were there with Logan(he slammed his finger in a locker at my parents). We were the ONLY ones in there and we waited forEVER and we still ended up in the hall because they were cleaning rooms!!
Hope it heals fast!!

Hey, this is Derek. That stinks! My brother cut half-way through my pinky finger with an electric hedgeclipper at a church party! It's been 13 years now and I still have no feeling in most of my finger. It's weird but you get used to it. Sometimes if I bite one side of it hard enough I get a tingle. Sounds crazy but I do it every once in a while just to feel that it's still there.

Oh my goodness! I can only imagine how hard it would be to take care of 2 little boys and have a severed finger! I hope that you feel better soon. It was fun seeing you and your cute boys and very cute family pictures, by the way.
